Champions League hero signs new long term contract

Divock Origi has put to bed any doubts about his Liverpool future by signing a new long term contract with the club.

Origi’s previous contract was due to expire in the summer of 2020, and securing his future at the club was one of Klopp’s main objectives this summer.

It caps a remarkable turnaround for the Belgian, who looked set to leave the club last season after failing to secure any meaningful first team action. Then that goal against Everton. Then those goals against Barcelona. Then that goal against Tottenham.

And here we are. Build the man a statue!

With Liverpool set to fight for six trophies this season, strength in depth will be key, and Origi proved more than valuable when deputising last season. It’ll be interesting to see how Klopp deploys the Liverpool hero this season.

It’s also important to note that the contract does not include a release clause.
