Liverpool make surprising move to provide goalkeeping backup

After injuries to youngsters Viteslav Jaros and Caoimhin Kelleher, and with Alisson still on holiday, and Kamil Grabara having joined Huddersfield, numbers in the goalkeeping department at Liverpool are a little light.

The Evening Standard report that Jurgen Klopp has reached out to “former Preston, Leeds and Bolton goalkeeper (Andy) Lonergan to boost the numbers when the Reds head Stateside on Tuesday.”

We don’t expect Lonergan to sign a contract with Liverpool, but instead provide emergency cover throughout preseason should Mignolet suffer an injury, and a bit of competition during training to keep the Belgian on his toes.
