Lovren’s agent meets with potential suitors

According to Calciomercato, Dejan Lovren’s agent has met with AC Milan to discuss personal terms ahead of a potential transfer away from Liverpool.

The report states that Vlado Lemic, the agent of Lovren, travelled to Milan to negotiate a contract for the defender, despite the two clubs not having reached an agreement, with Liverpool believed to be determined to hold out for €20 million. “The meeting lasted over an hour and this could be a sign that talks made good progress and the club outlined their statement of intent.”

Given Joe Gomez’s development last season, and then, after his injury, the emergence of Joel Matip as a crucial part of Liverpool’s watertight backline, Dejan Lovren will probably be reduced to being a bit-part player for the Reds this season, so it’s no surprise to see him linked with a move away.

We’d be surprised to see Lovren go, especially for less than the rumoured €20 million. Klopp would ideally like to have four senior central defenders, and a potential sale of Lovren wouldn’t give him a lot of time to find a replacement. Whilst Sepp van den Berg has joined the club, it remains to be seen whether the 17 year old is ready for first team football right away…
