Player ratings: Liverpool vs Sporting Lisbon

By Luca Costello: @lfc.newshq

Simon Mignolet: 6
Made an awful mistake that Sporting Lisbon capitalised from and scored from, yet made some decent saves throughout the game.

Trent Alexander-Arnold: 6
Was confident on the ball, very attacking but couldn’t find enough energy to track back consistently.

Joel Matip: 6
Had somewhat an average game but intercepted a few high balls into the danger area and hit the bar off a header.

Virgil Van Dijk: 7
Had a lot of aerial threat and was decent in defence. Hit the post off a towering header that was very close to itching its way in.

Andy Robertson: 7
Darted forward well and made a few dangerous crosses. Didn’t help quite enough in defence however.

Fabinho: 7
Made a few crunching tackles, one of which got a cheer from the Liverpool crowd. However, he was reckless, receiving a booking later on in the game.

Jordan Henderson: 8
MOTM level performance. Was really energetic and controlled the midfield in all aspects and set a positive tone all game.

James Milner:6
Made a few timeless passes through the midfield. Still worked very hard as usual. Set up a chance for Wijnaldum that wasn’t quite finished.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: 6
Played a nice outside the foot pass to set up the second goal, but was playing on the right so didn’t get as much involvement as planned.

Divock Origi: 7
Was ready in the right position to score the first goal of the game, and did well in all aspects.

Georginio Wijnaldum: 8
Played very well on the left and scored the second goal of the game. Was very hard working and lively throughout.
