Liverpool have started off the campaign with two premier league victories and a UEFA cup added to their trophy cabinet. However, it hasn’t been perfect.
It’s hard to say after our defence was one of the best in Europe last season, but it has actually looked shaky in the past few matches.
It’s the beginning of the season so it could just be fixed soon, as well as figuring out Van Dijk’s best partner.
What if it isn’t? We gave chances to Southampton and Norwich although we were still comfortable winners, against Chelsea on the other hand we conceded two goals that made the game far harder than it should have been.
Arsenal have one of the best attacking forces in the league, and if we give them the same opportunities we have the other teams, we might be in another 4-3 drama-filled game.
If we do manage to defend well, and not concede more than one goal, it could tell us all is well.
Against the saints, we conceded 14 shots. Only one less than our own number, that is worrying.
The quality of the shot was better on our side of course, 3 shots on target from Southampton is not necessarily a good number but we only had double that ourselves.
We deserved the win and we played better, but it was closer than it should have been.
A closer comparison to how the Arsenal game could be is the Chelsea match up.
We conceded 20 shots, again one less than what we had. However we were far more efficient getting 11 on target compared to Chelsea’s 6.
Even then, the blues hit the post and had a few goals rightfully ruled out offside. We deserved the win, but in other circumstances we could have lost.
This game will be a true test to see if our defence has gotten worse.
